Welcome to "The Key To Parenting"
Meet The Team

The Key to Parenting was founded by three dynamic educators that combined bring 40 years of expertise in different areas of specialization with varied perspectives.

What is The Key to Parenting Philosophy?

The Key to Parenting was created on the premise that no one person has all the answers. We are a team of professionals in different fields that come together to offer parents the benefits of our experience, strengths and our knowledge. We help parents come up with solutions that best fit their particular situation. This is not a one-size fits all mentality. On the contrary every solution is tailor made to address the issue at hand. The Key to Parenting is founded on the principles of L.A.U.G.H: Limit setting, Acceptance of others, Unconditional love, Guidance and Honesty. These principles are the basis of a functional family and we provide parents with the key to incorporate L.A.U.G.H in everyday situations.

Carlota Fernandez

Carlota Fernandez

Carlota Fernandez brings nearly 25 years of experience teaching elementary and middle school, as well as children with learning disabilities and those who are gifted. She designed and developed a program to service students with mild learning disabilities in reading and math. She led and supervised a school department that serviced, children, teachers and parents. These services include consultation and follow up with teachers and parents in order to implement strategies to mold and change the student’s behavior.

Carlota Fernandez has a Bachelors in Psychology from FIU and a BS in Elementary Education from Nova University. She is certified by the State of Florida Department of Education in the following areas:
• Elementary Education
• Psychology
• Varying Exceptionalities
• Gifted Endorsement

On A Personal Note: Carlota brings experience to the team. She has been happily married for 34 years with two adult sons. But make no mistake; raising two sons is not always easy! Both of Carlota’s sons are gifted and at the time the school system did not make the provisions to challenge them properly. She had to develop ways to have these boys channel their creativity and enhance their intellectual ability. To her success, both boys studied careers away from home and are now successful engineers. But as the saying goes, “home is where the heart is”, both came back to Miami and started their own families, close to their roots.

Isis Perez-Gonzalez

Isis Perez-Gonzalez

Isis Perez-Gonzalez has been in the counseling field for 10 years as a school guidance counselor, and has a proven track record in improving parent/child relationships. She has a Masters of Science from Nova Southeastern University. She brings to the team her expertise in an array of areas that include, but not limited to:
• Parent/child communications
• Boundary setting with a positive mind frame
• Decision making and problem solving
• Managing Stress

On a personal note: Isis brings to the team hope. She enjoys a great relationship with her husband of 23 years and this is due to much self-discovery and surrender. As in any relationship the key is to grow together and learn from one another. Her husband is a cancer survivor and when one battles disease it gives a marriage an incredible amount of fortitude. Being strong and having a united front is just what is needed when raising a teenage daughter. Their teen is an independent, self motivated young lady. As Isis writes in her article, she believes in allowing her daughter to have her own space. The key in this household is respect.
